Role Purpose
The individual as a Sr Development Scientist will lead and support projects and provide technical leadership for metrology development and deliver processes and products to the Advanced Optics business, with a focus on glass properties measurements through optical techniques. This person will develop new processes to meet the requirements of materials for applications in Semiconductor Manufacturing. In addition, this is a very interdisciplinary role and the individual should also be able to work closely with other functions such as Research, Division Engineering, and Manufacturing as necessary. The person is expected to have broad technical skills and strong interpersonal skills to work with interdisciplinary teams of diverse backgrounds. In addition, the individual is expected to have excellent presentation and communication skills.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Develop new approaches to analysis of glass and process data coming from a variety of sources
- Develop, test and implement new metrology processes based on fundamental understanding of glass properties
- Engage in process development work including experimental planning, execution, data analysis, and communicating results providing impact.
- Collaborate with research and operational groups in developing and transferring fundamental understandings from evaluating new process and/or product concepts
- Lead technicians as required and work with them to achieve desired results
- Travel requirements: 40-50% (domestic)
Required Education and Skills
- Ph.D. degree in Experimental or Applied Physics with 3-5 years of relevant experience. Or MS degree with 5-7 years of experience
- Data analysis and ability to correlate data to real-life applications.
- Hands-on experimental skills, including use of optics for metrology applications
- Ability to strategize and think critically about experimental design and technical pathways
- Able to support high accuracy measurements to support manufacturing/quality assurance activities
- Ability to develop measurement strategies to address tightening requirements in material characterization
- Fluent in preferably more but at least one of the following: Python, C#, LabView with emphasis on experiment control, data acquisition and processing. Knowledge of standard office and data analysis applications
- Ability to work with customers
Desired Skills
- Expertise in glass optical metrology methodologies
- Knowledge of effects of annealing on glass properties
- Structured problem-solving techniques and applied statistics
- Familiar with basics of manufacturing processes. Comfortable working within a manufacturing environment while in a Development function
- Comfortable developing simple mathematical models to fit experimental observations, and interacting with other scientists to develop deeper understanding

The range for this position is $115,686.00 - $159,069.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
