The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
This is a 2nd Shift, four day, 10 hours per day shift, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, 3:00 pm to 1:00 am with paid lunch and $4 /hr shift differential.
The purpose of this position is:
- Create complex optical surfaces (aspheres, diffraction gratings free forms) by utilizing multi-axis diamond turning machines and associated metrology.
This position includes significant duties such as:
- Operate and setup diamond turning machining centers and fly cutters.
- Operate and understand Optical test equipment such as interferometers and surface profilometers, computer generated holograms and LuphoScans.
- Develop and document process parameters.
- Operate traditional inspection equipment such as toolmaker’s microscope, micrometers, height gages, and Vernier calipers.
- Read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
- Analytical troubleshooting / problem solving Communicate effectively to team members and management Leading and mentoring
Working Conditions:
- Lifting 30 lbs.
- Daily Standing 50% of shift Wearing protective gloves, glasses, and safety shoes
- Exposure to Chemicals: Acetone, Alcohol, and OMS Exposure to materials: Aluminum, Nickel, Zinc Sulfide, Zinc Selenide, Germanium, Indium arsenide and Silicon Polymers
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent Two-year technical degree preferable
- 5+ years diamond turning experience
- Writing and editing part programs including compensation programs
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents

The range for this position is $26.00 hourly rate - $30.50 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
